Chesterfield County has announced the latest inductees into its Sports Hall of Fame, set to honor seven individuals who have made significant contributions to the local sports scene. The 2025 class includes athletes from a variety of disciplines, each with a unique legacy.
The new inductees are Charles McLeod, Lennie Pond, Megan Walker, Rudi Johnson, Sean Marshall, Shannon Taylor, and William Henderson. Their achievements span basketball, NASCAR racing, football, baseball, and soccer.
Charles McLeod is recognized for his pioneering role as Virginia Commonwealth University’s first Black basketball player and his community involvement. Lennie Pond made his mark in NASCAR racing with a notable career that included winning the 1973 NASCAR Winston Cup Series Rookie of the Year Award.
Megan Walker excelled in basketball at Monacan High School and UConn before being drafted by the New York Liberty in 2020. Rudi Johnson gained fame as a running back with Auburn University and later the Cincinnati Bengals.
Sean Marshall had a successful Major League Baseball career as a pitcher for the Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds. Shannon Taylor achieved success in soccer at Syracuse University and on the U.S. National Team. William Henderson’s football career included winning a Super Bowl with the Green Bay Packers.
J.C. Poma, executive director of Chesterfield’s Sports, Visitation and Entertainment Department stated: “This new class of athletes to be inducted into the Chesterfield Sports Hall of Fame continues to exemplify the high-level of athleticism that is rooted in our community.”
The Chesterfield County Sports Hall of Fame was established in 2024 by Virginia Credit Union to honor those who have contributed significantly to local sports history. Inductees will be commemorated at River City Sportsplex on Genito Road. A recognition banquet is scheduled for September 18 at the Perkinson Center for Arts and Education.
