Chesterfield County is set to mark the 50th anniversary of Rockwood Park with a community event on Saturday, July 19. The celebration will feature music, activities, nature programming, and a special treat for attendees.
In collaboration with local ice cream shop Gelati Celesti, Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation will introduce a limited-edition ice cream flavor created for the park’s milestone anniversary. This new flavor will be unveiled at 11 a.m. during a presentation at the park.
Visitors can participate in various free activities throughout the day at the Rockwood Nature Center. These include bounce houses, inflatables, and hands-on programming. WRIC Meteorologist Jacqueline Waters is scheduled to make an appearance at noon to engage guests in educational and interactive nature experiences.
The event underscores Chesterfield County’s dedication to celebrating community spaces and recreational resources that have been integral to residents since Rockwood Park opened in 1975. Known as one of the largest and most-visited parks in the country, it has played a significant role in outdoor enjoyment and environmental education.
Families are encouraged to attend, enjoy outdoor activities, explore the Nature Center, and sample Gelati Celesti’s commemorative ice cream flavor for Rockwood Park.
