Substance use recovery services in Chesterfield County are offering hope and support to individuals struggling with addiction. The Adult Substance Use Services program provides a variety of services aimed at helping people begin their journey to recovery.

The process starts with an intake assessment where staff members work to understand each individual’s unique situation. This leads to the development of a personalized recovery plan with the help of a clinician. Detoxification is often the first step, and Chesterfield advises against detoxing alone due to potential dangers, especially with substances like alcohol or benzodiazepines.

For those requiring more intensive care, referrals for withdrawal management or residential treatment programs are available. Individuals reentering society from jail receive discharge planning and ongoing support.

Chesterfield also offers alternatives to incarceration through programs like Recovery Court and the Veteran Treatment Docket, which focus on treatment rather than punishment. These initiatives provide therapy, drug testing, peer support, and structured recovery plans.

The Helping Addicts Recover Progressively (HARP) program is another initiative that began in county jails and has expanded into the community. It emphasizes personal growth and community engagement as part of the recovery process.

The Mobile Integrated Health (MIH) program connects residents with complex needs to long-term care solutions while reducing reliance on emergency services. Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) combines therapy and medication to create sustainable change for clients.

Available resources include individual and group counseling, trauma-informed care, case management, peer support, harm reduction services such as Narcan distribution, drug disposal kits, fentanyl testing strips, and free Narcan training through the REVIVE! program.

Libbie Roberts, a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist in Chesterfield County, shares her story of how taking the first step toward recovery changed her life: “No matter where you’re starting from… there is help… there is healing… there is hope.”

For those ready to begin their journey towards recovery, Access Services can be reached at 804-768-7318 or visited during assessment hours.
