Chesterfield County and the Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia have announced their annual Memorial Day Ceremony, scheduled for Monday, May 26 at 2 p.m. The event will take place at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Building Exhibition Hall located at the County Fairgrounds on Courthouse Road.

This year’s theme is “Chesterfield County Remembers Our Fallen Heroes.” Board of Supervisors Chair Jim Ingle from the Bermuda District will deliver remarks. The ceremony will emphasize the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial Wall as part of commemorating the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War, with a focus on honoring soldiers from Chesterfield County who lost their lives during that conflict.

The event will feature Lt. Col. Curt Powell, USMC Retired, who was recognized as the 2024 Veteran of the Year for Virginia’s 4th Congressional District. Attendees are invited to participate in a national Moment of Remembrance following his address.

Patriotic musical performances are planned, including a live rendition of “Taps” to conclude the ceremony.
