At around 12:45 a.m. on May 27, 2025, Chesterfield Utilities was informed by the City of Richmond Department of Public Utilities (DPU) about challenges at their water treatment plant. To assist Richmond in managing water demands during this issue, the DPU requested that Chesterfield reduce or cease its intake of water from the city.
By 2 a.m., Chesterfield Utilities’ operations staff had stopped drawing water from three entry points connected to Richmond and shifted its customers to alternative sources. “Chesterfield’s water remains safe to consume,” confirmed Chesterfield Utilities, adding that “its water distribution system has continued to operate as designed through this incident.”
