Five-term Dale District Supervisor James M. “Jim” Holland was remembered on Saturday, October 25, during a Celebration of Life service at Victory Tabernacle Church. Holland died on October 14 at the age of 73 after battling cancer.

Board of Supervisors Chair Jim Ingle from the Bermuda District and Chesterfield County Administrator Dr. Joe Casey spoke about their experiences working with Holland, who served as the Dale District representative for 17 years.

U.S. Representative Jennifer McClelland also delivered remarks at the service, recalling Holland’s friendship with her late father, Dr. James Fennimore McClellan Jr., who was a professor at Virginia State University and a civil rights activist.

Holland was originally from Gates County, North Carolina. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Judith, as well as his son James Matthew and daughter Jessica.

A committal ceremony will be held on Monday, November 3 at 3 p.m. at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk.
