Jennifer McClellan, currently serving as a U.S. Congresswoman representing Virginia’s 4th district, recently shared several updates on her social media addressing public concerns and national issues. In her tweets, McClellan sheds light on the implications of actions by former President Donald Trump regarding media funding and reflects on the state of the nation as it approaches a milestone anniversary.

On May 2, 2025, McClellan shared a tweet encouraging followers to “Learn more about what Trump’s actions to eliminate federal funding for public TV/radio means for @myVPM, you, and our democracy:”. The post included a link for followers to read further on the subject, emphasizing the potential impact on public media and its democratic role.

In another tweet on the same day, McClellan stated, “Trump’s latest unconstitutional attack on free speech/press will hit local PBS/NPR stations like @myVPM hard. What does that mean for you?”. She highlighted how VPM connects nearly two million people across Central Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley to government coverage, stressing the importance of this service in local communities.

Later that afternoon, McClellan tweeted about the nation’s future, noting, “Our nation is at a crossroads—and it’s up to us to determine whether our 250th anniversary as a country will be a celebration… or a wake.” She mentioned a discussion with RVA Magazine where she talked about national challenges and the stress on foundational ideals.

McClellan has been serving Virginia’s 4th District since 2023, initially taking over from Donald McEachin. Her political journey includes previous roles in the Virginia House of Delegates and the Virginia Senate. At 50, McClellan, who resides in Richmond, brings her experiences from a long career in politics and education, holding a BA from the University of Richmond (1994) and a JD from the University of Virginia (1997).
