Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan, who has represented Virginia’s 4th District in the U.S. Congress since 2023, addressed a range of policy issues in recent social media posts. McClellan, who succeeded Donald McEachin and previously served in both chambers of the Virginia General Assembly, used her platform to highlight concerns about Medicaid cuts, wage disparities for Black women, and community celebrations of Park and Recreation Month.
On July 10, 2025, McClellan expressed concern over proposed reductions to Medicaid funding. She stated that “Medicaid cuts will devastate our health care system, especially in rural communities. Today, I joined @SEIU_Virginia, @ProtectCareVA and @ctphealthcare to sound the alarm on the impact Medicaid cuts will have on Virginia.”
Later that day, McClellan recognized Black Women’s Equal Pay Day. She noted that “Today marks #BlackWomensEqualPayDay. Black women had to work an extra 190 days to reach the median of what white men earned in 2024. As a member of @TheBlackCaucus, I’m working to close the wage gap and fight for fair compensation for everyone.”
On July 11, 2025, McClellan marked a milestone for parks and recreation professionals within her district. She wrote: “This July marks the 40th year of Park and Recreation Month! Join me in celebrating the parks and recreation professionals across Virginia’s Fourth District who help our communities #BuildTogetherPlayTogether. From historic sites to nature trails to recreation facilities and more,”
Jennifer McClellan was born in Petersburg, Virginia in 1972 and currently resides in Richmond. She graduated from the University of Richmond with a BA in 1994 before earning her JD from the University of Virginia in 1997.
