Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan, who has represented Virginia’s 4th District in the U.S. Congress since 2023, recently shared her views on the passage of the so-called “Big Ugly Bill” and its implications for both Virginia and the nation through a series of posts on social media.
On July 11, 2025, McClellan commented on the legislative developments in Washington, stating: “The House was in recess this week as Trump’s Big Ugly Bill became law and the ramifications began to set in. Keep watching to see how I’m sounding the alarm on the dangers of this bill in Virginia and beyond.”
In a subsequent post dated July 13, 2025, she addressed the impact of the legislation at the state level: “The Big Ugly Bill essentially leaves state legislators with a choice: raise taxes or cut essential services across the board. This lose-lose situation was entirely avoidable. But Congressional Republicans prioritized tax cuts for billionaires over everybody else.”
On July 14, 2025, McClellan posted a third message that contained only a link without additional commentary: “https://t.co/YhlomITWnK”
Jennifer McClellan succeeded Donald McEachin as representative for Virginia’s 4th District in 2023. She previously served in both chambers of Virginia’s General Assembly and is an alumna of both University of Richmond (BA) and University of Virginia (JD). Born in Petersburg in 1972, she currently resides in Richmond.
