Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan, representing Virginia’s 4th district since 2023, has shared her views on recent legislative developments and historical reflections through a series of tweets. McClellan, who replaced Donald McEachin in Congress, has been active in addressing the implications of new laws and significant amendments in U.S. history.
On July 9, 2025, McClellan expressed her concerns about the repercussions of the newly enacted legislation she refers to as the “Big Ugly Bill.” She stated that “Every American will pay the price for the ultra-rich to get even richer, and state and local governments will be forced to raise their taxes or cut essential services to cover the costs shifted to them.” This comment was made during her appearance with Erica R. Hill.
Shortly after this post, McClellan provided a link for viewers to “Watch the full interview here:” offering further insight into her perspectives on these legislative changes.
Later that day, McClellan reflected on an important historical milestone by acknowledging the anniversary of the ratification of the 14th Amendment in 1868. She tweeted that “the 14th Amendment provides a cornerstone to American citizenship and civil rights by guaranteeing citizenship to all persons born or naturalized in the United States.”
Jennifer McClellan’s political career spans various roles; before serving in Congress, she was part of both the Virginia House of Delegates and Senate. Born in Petersburg and currently residing in Richmond, she is an alumna of both University of Richmond and University of Virginia.
