Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan, representing Virginia’s 4th district since 2023, recently shared insights from various business sectors concerned about potential financial challenges. Her tweets highlight issues affecting clean energy and housing markets.
On May 9, 2025, Congresswoman McClellan noted the concerns of a rooftop and farmfield solar installation business facing uncertainty due to proposed cuts to clean energy tax credits. She stated “A rooftop and farmfield solar installation business is worried about cuts to clean energy tax credits that make long-term solar projects more uncertain, despite their impact on lowering energy costs and providing new sources of income to farmers.”
In another tweet posted on the same day, McClellan expressed the anxiety of these businesses regarding their financial stability. She wrote “These businesses were brave enough to share their stories with me. But they fear for their financial futures.”
Additionally, McClellan highlighted concerns from a realtor and contractor over tariffs impacting new construction. This situation potentially exacerbates housing market challenges by limiting supply and keeping people in their homes longer due to affordability fears upon selling. As she articulated in her tweet “A realtor and a contractor are worried about the impact of the tariffs on new construction, making it harder to reduce home prices by adding more supply. And more folks are staying in their homes longer because they are afraid that if they sell, they won’t be able to afford”
Jennifer McClellan has served in Congress since replacing Donald McEachin in 2023. Prior to this role, she was part of the Virginia House of Delegates from 2006 until 2017 before moving on to serve in the Virginia Senate.
