Henrico County Government recently shared updates on developments related to data centers in the area. The announcements were made via a series of tweets, providing insights into decisions made by the county’s Board and Planning Commission.
On June 11, 2025, Henrico County Government announced that “Following a public hearing, the Board has approved a resolution amending the county’s 2026 Comprehensive Plan setting development objectives & guidelines for data centers.” The resolution is notable for not creating a special focus area for these centers.
In another update on the same day, it was noted that “At a joint public hearing May 15 with the Planning Commission, the Board deferred action on a resolution that would have created a special focus area for data centers in the White Oak Technology Park area.” Instead, an alternate proposal was approved during this session.
The final tweet highlighted specific aspects of this new guidance: “The new guidance emphasizes preservation of key environmental & cultural resources & respect for nearby residential developments.” Further details can be accessed through the Planning Department’s resources.
