Henrico County Government recently announced community and infrastructure updates through its official social media account, including the acquisition of land for a new park and upcoming road closures related to utility work supporting local schools.

On August 4, 2025, Henrico County Government shared news about a community-driven initiative: “Neighbors celebrated Henrico’s purchase of 6 acres along Patterson Ave. for a park. More than 400 residents had signed a petition asking the county to acquire the property. ‘Your voice is heard,’ Tuckahoe Supervisor Jody Rogish said at today’s celebration at Maybeury Elementary.” The event marked the culmination of efforts by residents who advocated for increased green space in their neighborhood.

The following day, on August 5, 2025, the county provided updates regarding traffic adjustments due to utility work: “The right southbound lane of N Parham Rd will be closed near I-64 & Fordson Rd for overnight utility work from 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6 until 6 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7. Traffic will shift to the left lane. Access to Fordson west of Parham & some turns will be restricted.” In a subsequent post on the same date, further details were given: “Crews are scheduled to resume their work with the lane closure in effect beginning 9 p.m. Thursday until 6 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8. The utility work will occur weather permitting and will support improvements to Jackson Davis Elementary School.”

These infrastructure projects come as Henrico County Public Schools District continues to serve more than 50,000 students during the 2023-24 school year, making it the only public school district in Henrico County (source). Deep Run High School recorded the highest enrollment among its schools that year (source). Demographically, Black students comprised the largest ethnic group within the district at nearly 36% of total enrollment (source). The district’s total student population grew slightly from the previous year (source).

Henrico County’s recent announcements reflect ongoing efforts to respond to resident concerns and support educational infrastructure.
