Henrico County Government has announced several recent initiatives, including the recognition of September as Recovery Month and the formation of a new advisory committee focused on sustainability and resilience.
On August 26, 2025, Henrico County Government posted, “The Board is recognizing September as Recovery Month, noting the impacts that substance use disorders have on individuals, families & communities while also highlighting the achievements of individuals recovering from disorders.” The county’s Board aims to raise awareness about substance use disorders and honor those in recovery.
In a subsequent post on the same day, Henrico County Government shared details about an upcoming event: “Henrico and neighboring localities will hold the second annual Regional Recovery Day Sept. 3 at the Henrico Sports & Events Center. Learn more: https://t.co/1xXfL4SM9L” The event is intended to bring together communities in support of recovery efforts.
Later that evening, another announcement addressed environmental initiatives: “The Board has approved a resolution establishing the Sustainability and Resilience Advisory Committee and appointing its initial members from county staff. After the terms of the initial appointees, the committee will consist of 10 community members appointed for 1-year terms.”
Henrico County is home to a single public school district with an enrollment of over 50,000 students during the 2023-24 academic year (source). Deep Run High School had the highest enrollment among all schools in the county during this period (source). Black students represented the largest ethnic group in Henrico County schools for 2023-24, making up over one-third of total enrollment (source). Overall student numbers increased slightly compared to previous years (source), with Holladay Elementary enrolling a significant share of pre-kindergarten students (source).
