Henrico County Government has highlighted its ongoing partnership with Cristo Rey, a collaboration that began in 2019 and has since involved more than 60 students. The county’s corporate work study program aims to integrate young adults into county projects, providing them with practical professional experience while also benefiting from their innovative ideas.
In a tweet posted on July 14, 2025, Henrico County Government stated, “The county has held a partnership with the school since 2019 and has hosted more than 60 students during that time. The corporate work study program brings young adults with original ideas into county projects, while the students gain hands-on professional experience.”
On the same day, Henrico County Government announced that it had been recognized for its efforts by receiving an award from Cristo Rey. According to the post, “Henrico has been named Community Partner of the Year by Cristo Rey two years in a row. The award recognizes organizations that excel in integrating students into their workforce.”
A further tweet emphasized the demanding schedule managed by participating students: “Over the course of their high schools careers at Cristo Rey, the students complete a rigorous academic schedule while also working five full days each month.” This dual commitment is central to the program’s mission of preparing students for future careers.
According to data from the Virginia Department of Education, Henrico County Public Schools District enrolled 50,464 students during the 2023-24 school year. Deep Run High School reported the highest enrollment among all schools in the district. Black students made up the largest ethnic group in Henrico County schools at 35.7% of total enrollment during this period.
