Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan, representing Virginia’s 4th district since 2023, shared her views on recent legislative developments through a series of tweets. Her commentary focused on the advancement of significant government funding bills by House Republicans for fiscal year 2026.

On May 19, 2025, McClellan noted that “Last week, House Republicans advanced the largest portions of their ‘big beautiful bill’ to fund the government for fiscal year (FY) 2026 as the Energy & Commerce, Agriculture, and Ways & Means Committees met to consider their respective portions.” This tweet underscores the progression of substantial budgetary legislation within key committees.

Later that day, she expressed surprise at certain provisions included in these bills. She stated that “Even Republicans were surprised by some provisions in their big bad bill, like the requirement that someone making as little as $300 a week would have to pay up to $35 in copays to see a doctor.” This highlights potential concerns over healthcare costs for low-income individuals.

Jennifer McClellan has been serving in Congress since replacing Donald McEachin in 2023. She previously served in both the Virginia House of Delegates and Senate. Born in Petersburg and currently residing in Richmond, McClellan holds degrees from the University of Richmond and the University of Virginia.
