Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan, who represents Virginia’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed economic and equality issues in a series of posts on her official social media account.

On August 26, 2025, McClellan commented on the ongoing cost-of-living crisis and criticized policies put forth by former President Trump and Republican lawmakers. She stated, “For many, rising costs are a constant concern. Despite Trump and Republicans’ promises to the American people, their policies are exacerbating the cost-of-living crisis in this country. The following day, August 27, 2025, McClellan marked Women’s Equality Day by reflecting on the history of women’s suffrage and advocating for further progress through the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). She wrote, “#WomensEqualityDay commemorates when the 19th Amendment granted women the right to vote. But we need the ERA to achieve true equality. As a state legislator, I led the charge to make Virginia the 38th and final state necessary to ratify the ERA. As co-chair of the @ERACaucus,”. In another post from that day she added: “#WED2025 #ERANow @ERACoalition”.

Jennifer McClellan has served as a member of Congress since 2023 after succeeding Donald McEachin as representative for Virginia’s 4th district. Before her tenure in Congress, she held seats in both chambers of Virginia’s General Assembly—from 2006 to 2017 in the House of Delegates and later in the Senate—demonstrating longstanding involvement with legislative efforts related to civil rights and equality.

Born in Petersburg in 1972 and currently residing in Richmond at age 50, McClellan holds degrees from both University of Richmond (BA) and University of Virginia (JD), providing her with an academic background that supports her legislative work.
