Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan, who represents Virginia’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, has recently highlighted concerns about healthcare access and institutional challenges in her district through a series of social media posts.

On September 6, 2025, McClellan visited UVA Health and shared her observations online: “I visited @uvahealthnews to discuss the unique challenges they face in these unprecedented times. A top-tier safety net provider, academic and research institution, UVA Health plays a critical role in the health care ecosystem.”

The following day, she commented on recent changes at Augusta Health: “Augusta Health’s announcement stated the closures are part of their ‘ongoing response to the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and the resulting realities for healthcare delivery.'” In a related post made on September 7, 2025, she added: “The impact of the Big Ugly Bill on rural Virginians’ access to health care has already begun, as Augusta Medical Group has announced the closure of its Buena Vista, Churchville and Weyers Cave primary care facilities.”

Jennifer McClellan succeeded Donald McEachin in Congress in 2023 and currently resides in Richmond. She previously served both in the Virginia House of Delegates from 2006 to 2017 and on the Virginia Senate. Born in Petersburg in 1972, McClellan earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Richmond before receiving a law degree from the University of Virginia.
