Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan, who represents Virginia’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, has used her social media platform to comment on the ongoing government shutdown and recent political developments.
On November 6, 2025, McClellan posted about the government shutdown, stating: “We are now in the longest government shutdown in American history. House Republicans still show no interest in returning to Washington to negotiate an end. The American people are tired of it. I joined @kwelkernbc on @MeetThePress to discuss the shutdown and more.”
Later that day, she expressed gratitude toward a departing Speaker of the House: “Thank you, Madam Speaker, for all you’ve given to our nation. You will be missed as a trailblazer, a leader and a steadfast figure in fighting for the American people. It’s been an honor to serve with you.” This message was posted at 16:05 UTC.
In another post from November 6, McClellan criticized former President Trump and his administration’s spending priorities during the shutdown period: “President Trump and his Administration would rather waste taxpayer dollars on a ballroom than feed families and keep health care affordable for millions. This morning, I joined Sunrise on The Hill by @thehill to discuss Republicans’ inaction and skewed priorities during this”.
Jennifer McClellan has represented Virginia’s 4th District since 2023 after succeeding Donald McEachin. She previously served both in the Virginia House of Delegates from 2006 to 2017 and later in the Virginia Senate. Born in Petersburg, Virginia in 1972, McClellan currently resides in Richmond. She holds degrees from both the University of Richmond (BA) and University of Virginia (JD).
