Jennifer McClellan addresses Medicaid cuts and civil rights commemoration in recent updates

Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan, who represents Virginia’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, recently shared updates on her activities and concerns via social media posts in early September 2025.

On September 4, McClellan wrote about her visits to health care providers across various regions of Virginia during the August recess. She stated, “From Central to Southside to Southwest Virginia, I visited health care providers during the August recess to discuss how Medicaid cuts from the Big Ugly Law will harm Virginia communities and our health care safety net. Last week, I visited a dental clinic in Abingdon and spoke”.

The following day, September 5, she participated in an event at the University of Virginia School of Law commemorating a key civil rights milestone. She posted, “Today, I joined @UVALaw students and the Charlottesville community to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Swanson v. Board of Visitors decision. Gregory Swanson’s admission to the law school laid the foundation for  desegregating UVA, opening the door for me to attend the”.

On September 6, McClellan commented on Congressional proceedings as lawmakers returned from recess with looming legislative deadlines. She noted, “Congress returned from recess this week with less than a month to pass funding bills and avoid a government shutdown. Here are some highlights.”

Jennifer McClellan has served as U.S. Representative for Virginia’s 4th District since 2023 after succeeding Donald McEachin (source: FACT 1). Before her current role in Congress, she was a member of both the Virginia House of Delegates (2006-2017) and the Virginia Senate (source: FACT 2). Born in Petersburg in 1972 and currently residing in Richmond (source: FACT 3), McClellan is an alumna of both University of Richmond (BA) and University of Virginia School of Law (JD), graduating from UVA Law in 1997 (source: FACT 4).
