Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan, who represents Virginia’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, addressed concerns over voting rights and federal agency oversight in a series of posts on May 15, 2026.
In her first post, McClellan commented on the historical struggle for political participation in the United States and recent developments affecting voting rights. On May 15, she wrote: “The story of America has been the struggle to expand access to who can participate in our government by, of and for the people. The Voting Rights Act was a watershed moment for Black political participation. Now that SCOTUS has gutted Section 2, we see Republican state https://t.co/x9nPFGx76e”.
She followed this with an invitation to view her full remarks: “Watch my full remarks here: https://t.co/Mr5px9qXF9”, also posted on May 15.
Later that day, McClellan shifted focus to media regulation and alleged politicization at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). She stated: “The FCC serves the public interest, not a political agenda. But Trump’s FCC Chairman has sought to weaponize the agency to advance their “anti-woke” political agenda. I led 17 of my colleagues to call out this abuse of power. https://t.co/WNulrHm7pH”.
Jennifer McClellan has served in Congress since 2023 after succeeding Donald McEachin as representative for Virginia’s 4th district. Prior to her current role, she served in both the Virginia House of Delegates from 2006 to 2017 and the Virginia Senate. Born in Petersburg, Virginia in 1972, McClellan currently resides in Richmond. She is an alumna of the University of Richmond (BA) and holds a JD from the University of Virginia.
