Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan, who represents Virginia’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, recently posted a series of statements on her Twitter account criticizing the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and calling for urgent reforms.
On February 3, 2026, McClellan stated: “In city after city, DHS has spread terror as unidentifiable and untrained officers turn children into collateral, destabilize communities and cost lives. None of this has made us safer. The American people resoundingly agree that the Trump Administration has gone too far in”.
She continued her criticism in a subsequent post on the same day: “While some of my Republican colleagues now admit we must pass urgent reforms to reign in DHS, a shaky assurance that they will engage in negotiations is simply not good enough. We cannot stand idly by while a paramilitary force roams our streets without oversight. ICE and Border”.
In a third tweet posted moments later, McClellan expressed gratitude to those raising awareness about these issues: “I thank all those in my district and beyond who have spread awareness, shared stories and stood against this crisis. I will continue to work in Washington alongside local, state and federal partners to ensure we are holding ICE, Border Patrol and the Department of Homeland”.
Jennifer McClellan began serving as the representative for Virginia’s 4th district in 2023 after succeeding Donald McEachin. Before joining Congress, she served from 2006 to 2017 in the Virginia House of Delegates and also held office in the Virginia Senate. Born in Petersburg, Virginia in 1972, McClellan currently resides in Richmond. She holds a BA from the University of Richmond (1994) and earned her JD from the University of Virginia School of Law (1997).
