Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan, who represents Virginia’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, recently posted a series of updates on her social media accounts addressing environmental policy, local parks, and legislative developments.
On July 25, McClellan wrote: “ICYMI: I led 73 members of Congress with @RepPaulTonko to call on the EPA to stop its rollback of the mercury and air toxic standards that keep our communities and our planet safe.” The post referenced efforts by lawmakers to urge the Environmental Protection Agency not to weaken regulations on hazardous air pollutants.
Later that day, she highlighted a local destination in recognition of National Parks and Recreation Month. In her July 25 post, she stated: “National Parks and Rec Month is a great time to visit Maymont Park! Once the Gilded Age estate of James and Sally Dooley, Maymont has been a popular public park and museum for nearly 100 years. Its 100 acres contain the Maymont Mansion, an arboretum, an Italian and Japanese” The message underscored the historical significance of Maymont Park as well as its cultural attractions.
On July 26, McClellan commented on recent legislative proceedings: “It was a shorter than expected week in Washington after House Republicans canceled votes early.”
McClellan succeeded Donald McEachin in representing Virginia’s 4th district after his passing in late 2022. She began serving in Congress in 2023 following prior service in both the Virginia House of Delegates from 2006 to 2017 and the Virginia Senate. Born in Petersburg, Virginia in 1972, McClellan currently resides in Richmond. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Richmond (1994) and earned her law degree from the University of Virginia (1997).
