Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan, who represents Virginia’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, used her social media platform on July 24, 2025, to comment on federal minimum wage levels and health care coverage.
In a post marking the anniversary of a previous wage hike, McClellan stated, “OTD in 2009, Congress increased the minimum wage from $6.55 to $7.25. There it remains, but the cost of living has increased quite a bit…” (posted July 24, 2025).
Later that day, she addressed issues related to health insurance and legislative changes: “When people lose their health coverage, that doesn’t mean they stop getting sick. Without insurance, they avoid getting preventative care, and they end up in the emergency room — raising health insurance premiums for everybody else. Now that it’s law, the Big Ugly Bill will cost” (posted July 24, 2025). She also posted a follow-up tweet with only a link: “https://t.co/RJxA7soIA3” (posted July 24, 2025).
Jennifer McClellan succeeded Donald McEachin in Congress in 2023 and has represented Virginia’s 4th District since then. She previously served in both the Virginia House of Delegates from 2006 to 2017 and the Virginia Senate. Born in Petersburg in 1972 and currently residing in Richmond at age 50, McClellan holds degrees from the University of Richmond (BA) and University of Virginia (JD).
