Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan, representing Virginia’s 4th District in the U.S. Congress, voiced her concerns through a series of tweets regarding actions taken by former President Donald Trump. McClellan, who has been in Congress since 2023 after a career in the Virginia House of Delegates and Senate, brought attention to several controversial decisions made during Trump’s presidency.
On April 30, 2025, McClellan accused Trump of conducting “an all-out assault on educators across our country.” She highlighted his alleged attempt to dismantle the Department of Education, which she claims would have made it “more difficult for the federal government to protect the civil rights of students — especially those with disabilities” (“Original quotation”).
In another tweet posted on the same day, McClellan criticized Trump’s decision on his first day in office to pardon “1,500 insurrectionists who stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021.” She contended these individuals “trashed public property, attacked Capitol Police, and threatened members of Congress” (“Original quotation”).
Further criticism from McClellan was directed towards the Administration’s handling of public health resources. She asserted that the Administration “stripped resources to address health disparities impacting racial and ethnic minority groups and indigenous communities from HHS websites,” alongside “sudden and alarming federal cuts and an evisceration of our public health workforce” (“Original quotation”).
Jennifer McClellan, aged 50, hails from Petersburg, Virginia, and resides in Richmond. She holds degrees from the University of Richmond and the University of Virginia.
