Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan, representing Virginia’s 4th district, has been vocal on social media regarding recent legislative activities. On May 22, 2025, she expressed her concerns about a bill under debate in Congress.
In a tweet posted at 9:15 AM UTC, McClellan stated that they were in the second hour of debating what she referred to as a “Big Ugly Bill.” She claimed the legislation would remove health insurance from millions of Americans and deprive many more of food. Her opportunity to speak came just before 4 AM. “We’re in hour two of debating one Big Ugly Bill that kicks millions of Americans off their health insurance and takes food out of the mouths of millions more. My turn came just before 4 am.”
Later that day, at 12:05 PM UTC, McClellan directed her followers to read her full statement via a link shared on Twitter. “Read my full statement here: https://t.co/u3wU9baguq”
At the same time, she criticized House Republicans for passing what she described as a “big bad billionaire bonus,” implying that the budget benefits wealthy individuals while neglecting broader public needs. She emphasized the increasing difficulties faced by people trying to afford basic necessities such as food, healthcare, and housing. “This morning, House Republicans passed their big bad billionaire bonus — a budget that betrays the American people.“
Jennifer McClellan has served in Congress since 2023 after replacing Donald McEachin. Prior to this role, she was part of the Virginia House of Delegates from 2006 to 2017 and served in the Virginia Senate.
