Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan, representing Virginia’s 4th district, has been vocal on social media about several pressing issues. On May 21, 2025, she addressed concerns regarding a budget bill and actions by the Trump Administration.

In a tweet posted at 18:02:40 UTC, McClellan highlighted efforts by House Democrats to reveal the implications of a Republican-backed budget bill. She stated that for over 12 hours, “House Democrats have been exposing how the Republicans’ big bad budget bill provides tax cuts to the top 10% at the expense of the bottom 10% by stripping health insurance from millions of people and food out of the mouths of millions of hungry children.”

Following this, at 18:02:41 UTC, McClellan detailed further consequences of the proposed legislation. According to her post, “It decimates protections for the environment, federal workers, and consumers. Cuts Medicaid, food assistance and school lunches, education programs and Pell grants. Eviscerates the federal budget with the largest increase in deficit spending in the” history.

Later that day at 19:13:54 UTC, McClellan commented on an international issue involving former President Donald Trump’s administration. She claimed that “The Trump Administration just formally accepted a gifted luxury jet from Qatar.” This action was criticized as a violation of the Constitution’s Emoluments Clause which prohibits government officials from accepting gifts or money from foreign countries without Congress’s consent.

Jennifer McClellan has served in Congress since replacing Donald McEachin in 2023. Prior to this role, she had an extensive political career within Virginia’s legislative bodies.
