Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan, representing Virginia’s 4th district since 2023, shared her views on the current economic and social issues through a series of tweets on May 21, 2025. McClellan addressed rising costs and criticized Republican budget proposals.

In her first tweet “Costs are up, savings and retirement accounts are down and tariffs are driving up prices for farmers and consumers alike. Too many Americans are just one paycheck away from a disaster.” (May 21, 2025), she highlighted the financial struggles facing many Americans due to increased costs and dwindling savings.

Continuing in another post “Republicans’ $300 billion cuts to SNAP and other nutritional assistance programs hurt farmers” (May 21, 2025), McClellan expressed concern over proposed budget cuts to nutritional assistance programs like SNAP, suggesting these reductions would adversely affect both farmers and consumers.

Further criticizing the Republican budget bill, she stated “The Republican budget bill makes the largest cut to food assistance in American history and shifts costs to the states for the first time ever.” (May 21, 2025). She emphasized that this move could result in millions of hungry people being deprived of necessary food aid.

Jennifer McClellan has served as a member of Congress since replacing Donald McEachin in Virginia’s 4th District. Born in Petersburg in 1972, she holds degrees from the University of Richmond and the University of Virginia School of Law.
