Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan, representing Virginia’s 4th district, has recently shared her views on significant issues through a series of tweets. Her comments touch upon the regulation of artificial intelligence, budget decisions affecting healthcare, and funding challenges faced by community health centers.
On May 16, 2025, McClellan addressed the impact of artificial intelligence on society. She stated that “AI is revolutionizing all aspects of our lives. Like any tool, it can cause great harm if used without any guardrails.” She criticized Congressional inaction and noted that states have taken steps to regulate AI for privacy and public safety. However, she pointed out that House Republicans voted against these state efforts.
Later that day, McClellan highlighted developments from a lengthy Energy and Commerce Committee meeting in Washington. On May 16, she tweeted about the consequences of a proposed budget advanced by Republicans: “This week in Washington was dominated by a grueling 26-hour marathon Energy and Commerce Committee meeting…” According to her tweet, this budget could result in hospital closures and loss of health insurance for millions.
On May 17, McClellan turned her attention to local healthcare concerns. She reported that a Richmond community health center lost $850,000 in federal funding—a significant portion of its budget—and might lose up to $1.5 million. She described this situation as an existential threat to the center’s operations: “A community health center… announced this week that it lost $850,000 in federal funding…”
Jennifer McClellan has been serving in Congress since replacing Donald McEachin in 2023. Born in Petersburg, Virginia in 1972 and currently residing in Richmond, she holds degrees from the University of Richmond and the University of Virginia.
