Virginia Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan has taken to social media to express concern about the Trump administration’s actions regarding the Department of Education and potential impacts on educational programs. Representing Virginia’s 4th district, McClellan has been an advocate for educational opportunities throughout her political career.

On April 7, 2025, McClellan shared, “Tonight, I’m anchoring a special order hour from @TheBlackCaucus on the House floor with @repjamesclyburn on the Trump Administration’s efforts to dismantle the Department of Education.” This statement indicates her active participation in discussions about the education policy changes proposed by the Trump administration.

Additionally, on April 7, 2025, she provided a link to the proceedings via social media, which can be viewed here.

On the following day, April 8, 2025, McClellan highlighted her personal connection to education, tweeting, “My mother fought to get a good education. The first member of her family to go beyond the 8th grade, she eventually ran the TRIO programs at @VSU_1882 to ensure other at-risk students like her could go to and graduate college. Now those programs are at risk.” This tweet underscores the potential risks the current educational policy changes pose to TRIO programs, which are designed to support at-risk students in furthering their education.
