Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan, representing Virginia’s 4th district, recently shared her perspectives on several historical and current issues via social media. Her tweets provide insights into both contemporary political matters and significant historical events relevant to Virginia.
On February 19, 2025, McClellan expressed concerns about proposed federal budget cuts by the Trump administration and House Republicans. She highlighted the potential impact on education funding in rural communities within Virginia, stating that “Rural communities in Virginia could see 25% or more of their funds go away if they stop receiving federal support.”
In another tweet on the same day, McClellan commemorated Black History Month by reflecting on the contributions of Black delegates during Reconstruction. She noted that “24 Black men were delegates to the convention that passed the Virginia Constitution of 1868,” which was pivotal for Virginia’s readmission into the Union.
Additionally, McClellan recalled her legislative efforts alongside late Senator Henry Marsh in honoring early Black legislators in Virginia. On February 19, she tweeted about their joint initiative: “In 2012, the late Sen. Henry Marsh and I passed legislation honoring the first Black Virginia legislators with a plaque in the Virginia Capitol.”
