Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan, representing Virginia’s 4th district, recently engaged with her constituents via social media, informing them of various issues she is addressing.
On April 13, 2025, McClellan announced a televised town hall scheduled for the following day, encouraging viewers to “tune in to @12OnYourSide tomorrow at 7 PM”. The event promises to provide answers to questions from viewers about current developments on Capitol Hill.
The next day, April 14, McClellan highlighted the importance of Black Maternal Health Week, mentioning on social media that “Black Maternal Health Week focuses on the need to protect and advocate for Black mothers”. She pointed out that Black mothers face significantly higher risks of mortality during pregnancy, with about 80% of these deaths considered preventable.
In a subsequent post on the same day, McClellan shared a personal account, stating, “As a Black mother who almost died in childbirth, I trusted my health care providers to get me through a life-threatening situation.” She emphasized the need for robust public health institutions to ensure the care of Black mothers.
Jennifer McClellan is the current representative of Virginia’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress. She succeeded Donald McEachin in 2023 and previously served in the Virginia House of Delegates and the Virginia Senate. McClellan was born in Petersburg, Virginia, and resides in Richmond. She is an alumna of the University of Richmond and the University of Virginia.
