Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan, who represents Virginia’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, used her social media platform on October 3, 2025, to address concerns regarding the ongoing government shutdown and its impact on healthcare premiums.

In a post made at 2:20 p.m. UTC, McClellan shared a resource with her followers: “Watch our full conversation here: https://t.co/zLpE8bBEg1”.

Later that day, at 8:46 p.m. UTC, she commented on recent congressional developments, stating “Speaker Johnson canceled votes next week. That’s one more week without any action to end the government shutdown — and extend enhanced premium ACA tax credits before open enrollment begins on November 1st and millions of Americans see their insurance costs skyrocket.”

At 10:06 p.m. UTC, McClellan further highlighted the urgency of legislative action around healthcare coverage: “Affordable Care Act enhanced premium tax credits expire at the end of this year unless Congress acts. Open enrollment begins November 1st. Premium notices go out this month. But Republicans chose to shut down the government rather than act now. We can’t afford to wait.”

Jennifer McClellan has served as a member of Congress since replacing Donald McEachin in 2023 and previously held seats in both the Virginia House of Delegates (2006-2017) and Virginia Senate. She was born in Petersburg, Virginia in 1972 and currently resides in Richmond. McClellan holds degrees from the University of Richmond (BA) and University of Virginia (JD).
