Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan, who represents Virginia’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, used her Twitter account on May 21, 2026 to highlight recent legislative efforts in recycling and maternal health.
In a tweet posted at 15:53 UTC, McClellan stated, “Recycling reduces waste, provides new raw materials for manufacturing and lowers our carbon footprint. Yet tens of millions of tons of recyclable materials end up in landfills every year.
Today, the Energy & Commerce Committee unanimously advanced my bipartisan bill with https://t.co/6aFReGlVBN”. The message underscores her focus on environmental policy and congressional action aimed at addressing landfill waste.
Later the same day at 18:54 UTC, McClellan addressed ongoing public health concerns related to maternal mortality rates in the United States. She wrote, “The United States has a maternal mortality crisis that disproportionately impacts Black and older women. Over 80% of these deaths are preventable. Today, the Energy & Commerce Committee unanimously passed @RepUnderwood’s NIH IMPROVE Act to establish a research program at NIH https://t.co/tUM4kxKCM3”. This tweet highlights legislative support for research programs designed to address preventable maternal deaths.
A follow-up tweet at nearly the same time provided additional resources for constituents and interested parties: “Watch my full remarks here: https://t.co/I2KmnCL4Bn”.
