Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan, who represents Virginia’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, used her Twitter account to highlight several key community and legislative issues in early August 2025.
On August 7, McClellan recognized service members on National Purple Heart Day by sharing a story about a local veteran: “On National #PurpleHeartDay, we celebrate the brave service members and veterans who put their lives on the line to keep us safe. Staff Sergeant Reese Washington Jr., a local pastor in VA-04, received the Purple Heart Combat Award in 2004 while serving in Mosul, Iraq.”
The following day, she discussed outreach efforts during Congress’s August recess. On August 8 she wrote: “August recess provides an opportunity to meet with community leaders to connect my work in Congress to the people we serve.
Today, I held a roundtable with faith leaders in Surry to discuss how the Big Ugly Law will impact rural communities.”
Later that same day, McClellan addressed concerns about voter suppression tactics and promoted her legislative response: “In a government by, of and for the people, your vote is your power. Modern tactics to deceive and intimidate voters threaten the progress made to end voter suppression in our country.

Jennifer McClellan began representing Virginia’s 4th district after succeeding Donald McEachin in 2023. Before her tenure in Congress, she served both as a member of the Virginia House of Delegates from 2006 to 2017 and later as a state senator. Born in Petersburg and currently residing in Richmond at age 50, McClellan holds degrees from both the University of Richmond (BA) and University of Virginia (JD).
