Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan, who represents Virginia’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, addressed concerns on social media about recent closures of rural health care providers and linked them to Medicaid cuts in recently enacted legislation.

The following day, she directly criticized Republican claims regarding the effects of Medicaid cuts, stating: “Republicans claimed Democrats were spreading fear when we warned rural health care providers could close due to sweeping Medicaid cuts in the Big Ugly Law. But now, we’re seeing those fears come true.

Jennifer McClellan has served as a member of Congress since 2023 after succeeding Donald McEachin. Before her current role in Washington, she served both in the Virginia House of Delegates from 2006 to 2017 and in the Virginia Senate. Born in Petersburg in 1972 and currently residing in Richmond, McClellan holds degrees from the University of Richmond and the University of Virginia.
