Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan, representing Virginia’s 4th district, recently expressed her concerns over a proposed funding bill by House Republicans. Her statements were made public through a series of tweets on March 10, 2025.

In her first tweet, “With a government shutdown looming, House Republicans’ proposed funding bill cuts care for veterans, seniors and working families.” McClellan voiced her opposition to the bill that she believes would significantly reduce essential services for millions of Americans. She stated her support for bipartisan government funding but could not endorse measures that would cut critical services.

On the same day, she followed up with another tweet “Republicans want to cut veterans benefits, health care, affordable housing, nutrition programs, and more.” McClellan criticized the lack of consultation with Democrats in drafting this plan and accused House Republicans of preferring a government shutdown over bipartisan collaboration.

In a subsequent tweet “How would this bill affect the American people?” McClellan outlined the potential impacts of the bill. She highlighted that veterans exposed to toxic substances might not receive necessary care and emphasized risks to healthcare access and housing stability for vulnerable groups including veterans and domestic violence survivors.
