Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan, who represents Virginia’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed two significant issues on her official Twitter account: a large-scale data breach affecting Medicaid recipients and cuts to public broadcasting and foreign aid funding.

On July 17, 2025, McClellan commented on a major privacy incident involving sensitive information of millions of Americans. She wrote, “This outrageous disclosure of the Social Security numbers, names, addresses, birth dates, ethnic and racial information of 79 million Medicaid recipients violates the trust between the people and their government in a way that would horrify the Founding Fathers.”

The following day, July 18, 2025, McClellan criticized recent actions by House Republicans regarding federal budget allocations. In one post she stated, “Early this morning, House Republicans once again rubber stamped Donald Trump’s extreme agenda by slashing Congressionally approved funding for public broadcasting and foreign aid.” In a subsequent tweet from the same thread she added, “While federal funding comprises a small portion of NPR’s and PBS’s overall revenue, it is critical to local stations in rural and underserved communities. Public broadcasting cuts abandon these communities as part of the Trump Administration’s broader effort to quash freedom of”

Jennifer McClellan has served as the representative for Virginia’s 4th District since 2023 after succeeding Donald McEachin. Before her current role in Congress, she served in both the Virginia House of Delegates from 2006 to 2017 and in the Virginia Senate. Born in Petersburg in 1972 and currently residing in Richmond at age 50, McClellan holds degrees from both the University of Richmond (BA) and University of Virginia (JD).
