Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan, who represents Virginia’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, shared a series of posts on July 18, 2025, expressing concerns about recent foreign aid cuts and their potential impact on national security and public access to information.
In her first post, McClellan highlighted the role of public broadcasting: “Public broadcasting strengthens our communities by delivering life-saving emergency alert services, important coverage of state and local news and government meetings, and educational programming for children.” (July 18, 2025)
She then addressed the implications of reduced foreign aid under the Trump Administration: “The foreign aid cuts continue the Trump Administration’s actions weakening America’s leadership abroad and will lead to millions of preventable deaths. Adversaries like China and Russia now have an opportunity to fill these gaps in leadership, placing our national security” (July 18, 2025)
Finally, McClellan explained her opposition to these measures: “I voted no because these cuts will harm our national security interests and leave millions of Americans without access to the information they need.” (July 18, 2025)
Jennifer McClellan has served as the representative for Virginia’s 4th District since replacing Donald McEachin in 2023. Before joining Congress, she was a member of both the Virginia House of Delegates from 2006 to 2017 and the Virginia Senate. Born in Petersburg in 1972 and currently residing in Richmond at age 50, McClellan holds a BA from the University of Richmond (1994) and a JD from the University of Virginia (1997).
