Mike Cherry, a member of the Virginia House of Delegates, has used his social media platform to address concerns about nursing home oversight and recent allegations in Fairfax. In a series of posts between August 11 and August 13, 2025, Cherry commented on state actions and ongoing investigations.
On August 11, Cherry wrote: “Right now, too many of our most vulnerable Virginians are getting substandard care and the nursing homes are getting away with it. I thank @GovernorVA for this strong action today to bring needed oversight, accountability, and enforcement.” The statement followed an executive order by Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin aimed at increasing oversight of nursing homes in the state.
The following day, Cherry shared additional information regarding the executive order. On August 12 he posted: “ICYMI: here is coverage from @CBS6 about @GovernorVA’s executive order concerning nursing homes. I am hopeful this will have a positive impact not just here locally, but across the state.”
On August 13, Cherry addressed emerging issues in Fairfax: “The allegations coming out of Fairfax are incredibly concerning. Answers are urgently needed. I am confident State Police will get to the bottom of this.”
Cherry’s comments come amid broader scrutiny over conditions in Virginia’s long-term care facilities. Recent reports have highlighted deficiencies in care for elderly residents across the state. In response to these concerns, Governor Glenn Youngkin issued an executive order directing increased regulatory enforcement for nursing homes.
Cherry represents part of Chesterfield County and Colonial Heights in the Virginia House of Delegates.
