According to PCPS, Petersburg Athletics aligns with the school district’s mission by offering student-athletes opportunities in both academics and athletics while adhering to values of integrity, excellence, and loyalty. The program aims to meet academic and athletic standards, including graduation rates and Virginia High School League (VHSL) measures. Its strategic goals include supporting academic achievement, student growth, sportsmanship, athletic performance, financial accountability, diversity, equity, and community engagement. It collaborates with the Guidance Department, alumni, and local community to provide resources and opportunities for student-athletes.
Oklahoma State University is described as a land-grant institution with over 35,000 students across five campuses. Founded in 1890 as Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College, OSU emphasizes accessibility and inclusion with a focus on preparing students for academic and career success. The university offers a 20:1 student-to-faculty ratio and Student Accessibility Services. Located in Stillwater, OSU provides resources for safety, wellness, and sustainability while engaging with local and statewide communities. Its research programs aim to improve quality of life under the leadership of President Jim Hess.
PCPS serves approximately 4,400 students across nine schools with a staff of 672 and an annual budget of $70.5 million. The district’s mission is to prepare students as 21st-century citizens capable of collaboration, communication, and innovation. Its vision focuses on transforming learning so every student graduates with diverse choices. Governed by a seven-member School Board elected to four-year terms responsible for setting policies and overseeing the budget, Superintendent Yolonda Brown leads the district. Board meetings are generally held twice monthly and open to the public.
