Petersburg City Public Schools (PCPS) announced that Community Day 2025, held on Saturday, August 9, in partnership with Peoples Advantage Federal Credit Union, featured music, food, activities, haircuts, and other family-friendly events.
According to the event page, Community Day 2025 was hosted by Peoples Advantage Federal Credit Union and PCPS at Petersburg High School. The event included back-to-school supplies, bounce houses, a job fair, food trucks with vouchers, music from a DJ, a shred truck, and free haircuts or braiding services for Petersburg residents. Local vendors and community organizations were present to provide information and resources.
Vendor sponsorships were used to provide meals and services. The event was organized to give students and families access to school-related resources and community programs in one location. Activities and services were offered at no cost to attendees.
Peoples Advantage Federal Credit Union serves members in Petersburg, Richmond, and nearby communities by providing financial services including savings accounts, loans, and credit-building programs. As a member-owned cooperative and certified Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), it offers free financial education through its Financial Empowerment Centers and provides services in lower-income areas. Membership is available to individuals who live, work or have family in designated cities and counties.
PCPS serves approximately 4,400 students across nine schools with a staff of 672 and an annual budget of $70.5 million. The district’s mission is to prepare students to become 21st-century citizens capable of collaboration, communication, and innovation. Its vision focuses on transforming learning so every student graduates with a wide range of choices. PCPS is governed by a seven-member School Board elected to four-year terms responsible for setting policies and overseeing the budget. Superintendent Yolonda Brown leads the district.
