VCU freshman Presten Augustin set a school record and advanced to the quarterfinal round on May 27 during the opening day of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field East First Round at the UK Track Complex in Lexington, Kentucky.
Augustin completed the 110-meter hurdles in 13.82 seconds, surpassing Daiqwaun Faircloth’s previous VCU record of 13.84 set in 2023. His performance placed him 24th among a field of 48 competitors, earning him a spot in Friday’s quarterfinal round scheduled for 6:15 p.m. The top twelve finishers from that race will qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships, which will take place June 10-13 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
In addition to his achievement in the hurdles, Augustin also competed in the 400-meter hurdles on Wednesday, finishing with a time of 52.90 seconds and placing 46th overall to conclude his freshman season in that event. Earlier this month, Augustin won the Atlantic 10 Conference title in the 400-meter hurdles and secured second place in the 110-meter hurdles.
Troy McWilliams also represented VCU by concluding his senior season with a performance in the hammer throw event, where he finished 45th.
