The Department of Public Works in Richmond, Virginia, is set to begin construction on Overbrook Road at the intersections of Tazewell Street and Fendall Avenue. The project aims to replace outdated traffic signal equipment with all-way stop controls. Construction is scheduled to start on June 30, weather permitting.
During the week of June 30, traffic control signals will be switched to an “all red flashing pattern for one week,” while new all-way stop signs will be installed on all approaches. The following week, starting July 7, the removal of traffic control signals will commence if weather conditions allow. This phase will involve intermittent lane closures.
Once the old equipment is removed safely, the newly installed all-way stop signs will manage traffic at these intersections. Drivers are reminded to adhere to guidelines for all-way stop signs: come to a complete stop even if no other vehicles are visible, always yield for pedestrians crossing the street, and follow right-of-way rules based on arrival times at the intersection.
The Department encourages drivers to give extra space and reduce speed when passing through work zones marked by orange cones.
