The City of Richmond’s Department of Finance has announced the completion of sending real estate tax bills to mortgage lenders. Taxpayers whose lenders usually handle these payments need not take further action. However, those who pay directly should ensure their payment is made by June 16.

Once received, lenders are expected to remit payment to the City within a week. Taxpayers can verify this with their lender after 10-14 days.

In cases where both the taxpayer and lender have paid, refunds can be requested from the Department of Finance through rva311.com. The process involves searching for “real estate,” selecting “Real Estate Taxes,” and completing a form under “Refund Request.”

For assistance with refund requests or other inquiries, taxpayers can contact 311.

Mayor Danny Avula has pledged to engage an external expert to review the Department’s processes. The City also plans to update affected taxpayers via mail or email promptly.
