The City of Richmond has embarked on a beautification project funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) to enhance gateways throughout the city. As part of this initiative, seven out of eight planned locations have been completed. The final site, located on Broad Street between 4th and 7th streets, will include distinctive lighting and landscaping features. The city anticipates that this project will be finished by late fall in 2025.

During the construction period, drivers can expect intermittent lane closures and minor delays when traveling through the area.

The City of Richmond Department of Public Works (DPW), one of only 195 accredited public works agencies in the United States, manages this project. DPW’s responsibilities cover a wide range of services such as leaf collection, street maintenance, trash collection, recycling, grass cutting, graffiti removal, parking enforcement, urban forestry, traffic signals, pavement markings, and civil engineering. Additionally, DPW oversees the upkeep of most city buildings and manages permits for work in the city’s right-of-way. They also run the RVA Bike Share program and maintain the city’s vehicle fleet. DPW’s operations are funded by Richmond’s general fund.
