Local business owners attended a workshop organized by the City of Richmond’s Office of Minority Business Development (OMBD) and the Department of Procurement on October 30 at the Richmond Public Library Main Branch. The event, titled “Doing Business with the City of Richmond,” aimed to help local vendors better understand how to participate in city contracting.

Participants were provided with information on registering as official suppliers, details about the city’s procurement processes, and guidance on bidding for future contracts. Staff from both OMBD and Procurement explained how businesses can find suitable opportunities and meet necessary qualifications.

The session attracted small and minority-owned businesses from across the region, highlighting increased interest in public-sector contracts. Attendees found it helpful for understanding how to engage with city procurement systems and appreciated direct access to staff who could answer their questions.

Ongoing workshops are planned to address topics such as government contracting, supplier diversity, and development for local businesses.

The Office of Minority Business Development focuses on increasing involvement from minority-, women-, and small-owned businesses in city contracts by providing training, technical support, and outreach services.
