Richmond mails real estate rebates; completion expected by June 30

The City of Richmond has initiated the distribution of real estate rebate checks to eligible residents who owned property in 2024. The Department of Finance has committed to mailing all checks by June 30, 2025. Residents are advised that:

– Checks will be sent to the address recorded with the City’s Department of Finance.
– No additional action is required from qualifying residents.
– Most recipients should receive their checks by early July, subject to postal delivery times.

The City has also alerted property owners that rebate checks with payee names longer than 35 characters may require extra processing at some banks. This character limit is a common constraint in many check-printing systems, and the City is preemptively notifying residents that some checks might need reprocessing.

For inquiries about eligibility, updating mailing addresses, or issues with cashing checks, property owners can contact RVA311 by dialing 3-1-1 within city limits or submitting a ticket online at rva311.com.

Previously, an error occurred when incorrect checks were mailed out listing “Hartshorn Community Council” as the payee. This mistake led to delays in mailing the remaining rebate checks while data verification was conducted.

This rebate initiative was approved by City Council in 2024 and aims to provide financial relief amidst increasing property values and housing costs.
