Richmond maintains safe water pressure after main break
Honorable Cynthia I. Newbille Council President — City of Richmond

Yesterday, Richmond experienced a water main break at 7th and Canal Streets, affecting the flow of water into the Church Hill Tank. The City scheduled an overnight repair during low-demand hours to minimize customer impact. However, Richmond’s Department of Public Utilities (DPU) found that a permanent fix would affect residents in Richmond and Henrico County.

DPU quickly coordinated with Henrico County to maintain water levels in storage tanks and ensure uninterrupted regional service. Due to proactive efforts by DPU staff, safe water pressure was maintained throughout the distribution system overnight. Water service remains safe and stable for residents today.

The permanent repair is expected early next week, with coordination between DPU and Henrico County to prevent disruptions and allow time for water storage planning. DPU will continue working with regional partners to ensure water supply safety.
