The Richmond Police Department announced on April 24 that it is accepting applications for its 37th Community Academy, a free program aimed at educating residents about police work and fostering stronger community relationships.
The academy provides an opportunity for community members to learn about police operations and public safety, helping to build trust and understanding between the department and the people it serves.
The five-week program will be held every Tuesday from April 28 through May 26, with sessions running from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The first session will take place at the Department of Emergency Communications Center located at 3516 N. Hopkins Road. The remaining sessions on May 5, 12, 19, and 26 will be held at the Second Precinct on East Belt Boulevard in Richmond.
Participants will receive information on various topics including police interactions and procedures, traffic stops, suicide prevention and medical response such as CPR, as well as awareness around child abuse, sex abuse, and domestic violence. Attendees will also get a behind-the-scenes look at public safety agencies. A graduation ceremony is planned upon completion of the program.
Interested individuals are encouraged to apply by contacting Jasmine Perez via phone or email as listed in the announcement.
